After a 2016 indoor season campaign that did not go as planned Gerald Phiri the Zambian international sprinter and national record holder of the 100 meters launched his outdoor season campaign on May 14th at the Pure Athletics Elite Invitational in the US where he took on US superstar Tyson Gay and placed directly after him in second place with a blazing time of 10.14 seconds to Gay’s 10.03 seconds.
Gerald who represented Zambia at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London is looking to put up a better showing this time around in Brazil where he hopes to make the 100 meters finals.
His performance and opener which directly qualifies him to the Rio Olympics is a very bright spot for Phiri who had been plagued with injuries for a number of years since the 2012 Olympic Games and he hopes to continue the trend by improving on his times before the Rio Games.
