
ZARAGOZA (2016 FIBA U17 Women's World Championship) - Mali wrote the headline on Day 1 of the 2016 FIBA U17 Women's World Championship in Zaragoza after upsetting Brazil.
In a repeat of their first-ever win in the competition four years ago, Mali took down Brazil after hanging on for a terrific 77-70 victory. Salimatou Kourouma was the hero with a brilliant 24 points and 13 rebounds, with Gnere Alima Dembele also claiming a double-double.
Italy also gained revenge as they edged past Czech Republic 59-57, while China impressed in a big way as they beat France by 56-44 thanks mainly to 17 points and eight rebounds from Xu Han.
USA tipped off their title defence by strolling past Korea, while there was also a convincing win for Australia against Mexico.
