
The Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars may face their Malawian opponent, The Flames in an international friendly encounter on March 21st at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown.
According to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) media officer, Abubakar Kamara, the Malawi friendly is a warm-up tie for the team’s two-legged African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon while Malawi will also use the friendly as a preparation to face Syli Nationale of Guinea on March 25th.
Players have already been invited for the proposed friendly match with Malawi and the games against Gabon’s Azingo Nationale.
Sierra Leone’s double tie with Gabon are on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying schedule but will score no points because the central African nation will be hosting the January finals.
Leone Stars are currently bottom of group I in the AFCON qualifiers behind Sudan and African Champions Ivory Coast. The country’s next competitive match in the qualifiers is against Sudan on June 3rd.
