The host started the Second Round first leg clash the better side controlling the tempo of the game with brilliant movements in midfield pushing the Moroccans to defend.
The Young Scorpions went close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions with Bun Sanneh, Ebrima Jobe, Hamidou Bojang and Mbye Faye all failing covert chances at goal.
Real de Banjul goal poacher, Jobe headed home a Sanneh cross pass a helpless Ben Abdel Elmehdi three minutes before recess, for the only goal that separated the two sides.
After the break, the host continued from where they left off putting the Moroccans under immense pressure. Captain Ablie Jallow, Adama Jarju and Ebrima Jobe were denied by Moroccan goalkeeper Ben Abdel to keep the scoreline unchanged with the Gambians squeezing oout a narrow victory ahead of the return leg in three weeks in Rabat.
Reactions
Omar Sise (Head Coach, Gambia)
It was a match that we prepared well and everybody is behind the team and that helped us. We are a bit disappointed with the goals that we expected to score but it's a general problem for The Gambia. It will take time to address it but at least we managed to score in every game.
Mark Wotte (Head Coach, Morocco)
I was not happy with my team’s first half performance because we can play much better and we will play much better in Rabat. The objective of my team is to score two goals more than Gambia in Rabat. We will have two players back for the return leg and they would help the team. The Gambian players know each other very well; they might have spent a lot of time together which isn't the case with Morocco.
