Etoile du Sahel had the last laugh of the two-horse race with rivals Esperance, claiming their 10th league title after a 3-0 away win over AS Marsa whilst Esperance were held to a barren draw at relegation bound EGS Gafsa.
Etoile finished on 77 points, five more than Esperance who slipped to third despite finishing on equal points as CS Sfaxien, who ended the season in grand style with a 6-0 thrashing of Kasserine.
It was the first league success for the Sousse-based club in eight years. Their previous triumphs were in 1950, 1958, 1963, 1966, 1972, 1986, 1987 and 1997.
Etoile and Sfaxien will represent Tunisia in next year’s CAF Champions League by virtue of finishing in the top two, and Esperance in the CAF Confederation Cup.
