
Brazzaville, Congo, January 7, 2015 - Heavy favourites Tunisia, Algeria and Cameroon started victorious on opening day of the African Men's Olympic Qualification Tournament at Henri Elende Hall on Thursday.
Tunisia opened the competition with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) victory over hosts Congo Brazzaville in Pool A.
Tunisia and Algeria led their respective pools at the end of the first day. Tunisia led Pool A with three points and 1-0 record, while Congo Brazzaville did not earn points for a 0-1 win-loss card. Algeria led Pool B ahead of Cameroon, both squads with a 1-0 record, while Congo RD and Nigeria are at the bottom of the pool with their respective defeats.
On the second day of competition, Egypt will start their campaign against Congo Brazzaville in Pool A. Cameroon will take on Algeria, while Nigeria meet RD Congo in Pool B.
The winner of the tournament will book a direct ticket to Rio 2016 Olympic Games, while the second and third placed teams will earn another opportunity to qualify through the World Olympic Qualification Tournament.
