The sun has not set on qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games just yet
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 18, 2016 – The Rio 2016 Olympic Games beach volleyball puzzle became a little more complete on Sunday, with Egypt’s women booking a spot on Copacabana Beach by winning the CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final in Abuja, Nigeria.
They will now join Brazil – who claimed two of the berths as hosts and through Barbara Seixas and Agatha Bednarczuk’s gold medal heroics at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 – from August 5-21. But there is still a long way to go on the road to Rio.

Continental Cup contenders chase Copacabana climax
The conclusion of Sunday’s CAVB event is just one piece of the picture when it comes to qualifying through the various Continental Cups.
While Egypt will now be preparing for the tournament in Rio, runners-up Nigeria and bronze medal winners Rwanda move on to the FIVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup final in Sochi, Russia from July 4-10. The winners and runners-up from that tournament also earn a berth for the Olympics, so all is not lost just yet.

The next women’s Continental Cup to take place will be the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Finals in Cairns, Australia from June 20-26. The home country will welcome Thailand, China and three other countries who are yet to be confirmed.
The NORCECA Continental Cup Finals also takes place from June 20-26 in Acapulco, Mexico. USA, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic and six other countries (TBC) will clash for an Olympic spot.
At the same time, Argentina will welcome Chile, Venezuela and three other countries still to be decided to their shores for the CSV Continental Cup Finals.
Finally, the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Finals will take place in Stavanger, Norway from June 22-25 with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland completing a competitive line-up.
All tournaments will see the winners qualify directly for Rio 2016, with the runners-up and third placed countries moving on to the FIVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final.

Olympic Ranking far from complete
Whilst teams battle it out for a coveted Olympics spot at the five Continental Cup Finals, the situation in the Provisional Olympic Ranking remains tight.
The 15 highest ranked teams on the Olympic Ranking List as of June 13, 2016 will all travel to Rio for the Games (respecting the maximum of two quota places per national federation and ensuring they have participated in a minimum of 12 official FIVB Olympic Qualification tournaments), and with just a few hundred points separating countries currently in the rankings and those still chasing down a place, every single event is proving to be crucial.
