Yaoundé, Cameroon, February 14, 2016 – Outside spiker Safia Boukhima is part of the golden generation of players of the Algerian women’s national team, which competed in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games, and now seeks to make an African record of being the only African team to play at three consecutive Olympic Games.
“Our objective is to play in Rio de Janeiro, it is a dream for the whole team,” Boukhima said after her team qualified to the semifinal of the African Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament. “I was honoured to play twice in the Olympics and I know it is a big challenge to be able to play for a third time.”
Boukhima now leads her team as captain and the main engine of points for the 2015 African Nations runners-up.
“We are looking forward to our semifinal match on Monday to complete our dream to play in Rio,” Boukhima concluded.
