
ZARAGOZA (2016 FIBA U17 World Championship) - It wasn't the result that they wanted but Bosnia and Herzegovina beat China to finish their 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship in 9th place while Mali eased past Egypt in an all-Africa battle for 15th place.
Bosnia and Herzegovina wasted a 17-point late second quarter lead and were left to survive a dogfight against China, registering an 88-84 victory to grab ninth place. Dzanan Musa collected 33 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Sani Campara added 19 points as they finished their first U17 Worlds appearance with three straight wins. Chen Peidong led China with 30 points - just three fewer than the total he had scored in the tournament prior to this game.
Argentina lost their first five games but finished strong, beating Chinese Taipei 67-64 for a second straight win to secure 13th place. Lautaro Lopez paced Argentina with 23 points while Lin Ting-Chien scored 29 points in the loss.
In the game for 15th place, Abdoul Karim Coulibaly collected 22 points and 11 rebounds and N'Faly Dante had 9 points and 16 rebounds as Mali hammered Egypt 61-38. The tournament newcomers Mali got a measure of revenge for losing to Egypt in the 2015 FIBA Africa U16 Championship Final played in Mali. Ahmed Khalaf picked up 12 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks for Egypt.
