Sierra Leonean tennis players got-off to a poor start in the ongoing 2016 ITF/CAT Africa Junior Championships West & Central Africa qualifiers in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Sierra Leonean duo, Mattu Kamara and Amza Kabba both lost their opening matches to Angel McLeod and Ibrahim Souleyman in the U-16 & U-12 categories respectively.

The Sierra Leonean duo, Mattu Kamara and Amza Kabba both lost their opening matches to Angel McLeod and Ibrahim Souleyman in the U-16 & U-12 categories respectively.
It was a winning return however for Nigerian youngster Angel McLeod whose mother passed-away days before the competition. McLeod beat Mattu Kamara 6-2, 6-3 in a two straight sets encounter.
The right-handed 15-year-old however endured a torrid start to the round-robin girls with the Sierra Leonean Thailand-based Kamara hitting some early winners in the match but the Nigerian responded well with a couple of aces .
In the boy’s U-12 category, Ibrahim Souleyman also beat his Sierra Leonean opponent, Amza Kabba by recording a 6-0, 6-2 win.
The tournament’s opening ceremony proved a total dominance by competition host, Nigeria, as several players recorded victory at the National Stadium in Abuja.
There were also wins for Adetayo Adetunji who registered 6-2,6-2 win over Fatoumata Kaita of Mali as well as Christopher Bulus and Christopher Itodo who both secured wins over Fetege Coulibaly of Cote d'Ivoire and Felix Hammong of Ghana 6-2, 6-1 in the boys U-16 category.
However, the Nigerians dominance met some resistance as Benin's N'tcha Delmas defeated David Amusu 6-3, 6-4 while Chidinma Eze and Favour Moses were beaten 6-0,6-0 and 6-2, 7-5 by Aichata Keita of Mali and Vania Dotze of Togo respectively.
