Warriors and Palancas Settle for a Stalemate as Early AFCON Exit Looms

The early Boxing Day fixture at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco delivered a tense and evenly matched encounter, as the Zimbabwe national football team were held to a draw by the Angola national football team—a result that did little to ease the pressure on either side after opening-day defeats.
Both teams entered the contest desperate for respite, urgency evident from the opening whistle. Angola struck first in the 24th minute, when forward Gelson Dala broke the deadlock, capitalizing on a rare moment of space to put the Palancas Negras ahead.
But Zimbabwe responded with resolve.

Before halftime, the Warriors found their footing through experienced talisman Knowledge Musona, who calmly leveled the score and restored belief on the Zimbabwean bench. The first half ended locked at 1–1, setting the stage for a tense second period.
After the break, the match descended into a physical duel—end-to-end spells, strong tackles, and half-chances that never quite materialized into goals. Despite flashes of intent from both sides, neither Angola nor Zimbabwe could find the decisive breakthrough.
When the final whistle sounded, the shared points felt like a missed opportunity. With tougher opponents still to come, both teams now face an uphill battle to avoid an early group-stage exit.
In a tournament where margins are razor-thin, this stalemate may yet prove costly.
