South Africa wasted little time asserting themselves. With crisp passing and confident movement, Bafana Bafana struck first in the 21st minute, when Oswin Appollis finished off a flowing move to give the South Africans an early lead and ignite celebrations in the stands.
The Palancas Negras regrouped, pressed higher up the pitch, and were rewarded for their enterprise when they clawed their way back into the contest with a well-earned equalizer in the 35th minute. At halftime, the scoreboard read 1–1, and the contest was finely poised.
The second half saw Bafana Bafana emerge with renewed intensity. Tshepang Moremi thought he had restored South Africa’s advantage shortly after the restart, only for VAR to rule the effort offside—momentarily cooling the momentum.
But South Africa were not to be denied.
In the 79th minute, talismanic forward Lyle Foster delivered the decisive blow, calmly slotting home to put the game beyond Angola’s reach and seal a statement victory for Hugo Broos’ men.
The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought but deserved win for Bafana Bafana—three points secured, confidence boosted, and a clear message sent to the rest of the group.
