Zesco United have won the 2017 Zambia Super Division title in a photo-finish on the final day of the season on Saturday, 2 December 2017.
The 2016 CAF Champions League semi-finalists beat Mufulira Wanderers 4-2 at home at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco had the last laugh in the four-team horse race for the title which had Zanaco, Nkana and Green Buffaloes in contention.
John Chingandu put Zesco ahead in the first minute but Wanderers leveled for the nine-time Zambian champions two minutes later through Guily Manziba.
Manziba completed his brace in the 20th minute when he put Wanderers ahead but the lead will last for only five minutes before Kenyan-import Jesse Were restored parity.
Were completed his own brace in the 38th minute to take his tally to 18 goals, three shy off Chris Mugalu of Lusaka Dynamos, who claimed the top scorer prize.
Lazarus Kambole completed Zesco’s good day at the office in the 83rd minute to see the Ndola outfit finish on 74 points, one behind last year’s winners, Zanaco.
Wanderers have been demoted following their away loss to end Zambia’s second most successful clubs’ three year stay in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Zanaco settled for second best after a 2-0 home win over mid-table side Forest Rangers at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka courtesy of a brace from Zambia midfielder Augustine Mulenga in the 68th and 78th minutes.
Zesco and Zanaco will represent Zambia in the 2018 Total CAF Champions League.
Nkana finished 3rd on 71 points and will play in the 2018 TOTAL CAF Confederation Cup alongside Green Buffaloes who finished 4th on 70 points.
