The match played at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday saw Earnest Mbewe’s first half strike separating the two sides as Zanaco maintained their unbeaten status after two round of matches.
However, Wydad still looked the better side in attack despite going down early in the game.
Mohammed Ounnajem was very busy and Zanaco goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata had to be at his best in the 20th and 32nd minutes to deny the 25-year old.
Congolese-import Fabrice Ondama then thought he had breached Zanaco’s defence in the 41st minute but was flagged offside.
Zanaco maintained their cautious strategy after the break with their best chance coming in the 65th minute through striker substitute Felix Nyaende but his effort was expertly intercepted by Abdellatif Noussir.
The home side then escaped in the 67th minute when William Jebor’s shot was saved by Nsabata.
Zanaco are now tied on 4 points with leaders Al Ahly of Egypt, who have superior goals.
The Zambians host bottom placed Cotonsport of Cameroon on June 3 in Lusaka whilst Ahly battles Wydad in Alexandria. Cotonsport are bottom of the standings pointless.
