According to Soccer Laduma, the 32 year old striker was supposed to have joined Pirates when he returned to South Africa from China but Arrows boss Manto Madlala asked Pirates Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza to allow him to come and help out at the club.
Katongo first came to South Africa back in 2004 when he joined Jomo Cosmos from Zambian outfit Green Buffaloes.
He then went to Germany to play for Armenia Bielefeld between 2008 and 2010. In 2010 Katongo left Germany to play for Skoda Xanthi but his stay in Greece lasted for just one year.
He then went to China to play for Henan Construction for three years and moved back home to Zambia. He came back to South Africa to link up with struggling Arrows but the former PSL top goalscorer will join Pirates next season.
