A brace from Bassem Morsy aided Zamalek to beat bitterest rivals Ahly 3-1 on Monday in Alexandria to win the Egyptian Cup for the fourth time in a row.
Morsy, who scored two goals in last year’s final against Ahly, gave the White Knights a two-goal advantage after 24 minutes. He broke the deadlock on 20 minutes tapping in from a Shikabala pass before doubling the lead from the spot four minutes later.
Zamalek took the game beyond their eternal rivals back from recess with Moustafa Fathi scoring the third goal on 59 minutes to seal victory.
The game turned soar for Ahly after two players, captain Hossam Ghaly and Ahmed Fathi were sent off in the closing stages.
The result served a sweet revenge for Zamalek who lost out on the Egyptian League crown to their city rivals.
