President of Sierra Leone Wrestling Association (SLWA), Prince Vandy Sualley has confirmed that the country is highly in preparation to make its debut at the 2017 World Junior Wrestling Championship.
The tournament which is billed for Tampere, Finland will run from August 1-6 and Sierra Leone will have three wrestlers that will battle for medals.
Confirming his team, the SLWA boss said the African Championship silver medalists Fatmata Mansaray and Mathew Moiwo Farmah who grabbed bronze in 66 kg Greco-Roman Juniors are also in the African championship team.
He said: “I have no doubt in these fighters, they made their debut at the African Championship in April this year and returned home with medals so I am also looking forward to see them returning home with World championship titles also.”
The SLWA boss, who is also the Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE), who is still seeking funding is hopeful that with maximum support and the required resource the crop of fighters will give the country its first world championship honors.
