Women In Sports Association (WISA) Walk / Achievers Awards 2017 At Accra Sports Stadium

The first ever Women In Sports Association (WISA) Health Walk and Achievers Day comes off at the forecourt of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday morning.

Madam Gloria Commodore, a former athlete and sports organizer who is initiator of the programme said this first event is to inspire and encourage parents and girls to get involved in sporting activities.

She commended female sports journalists in Ghana who have contributed in diverse means to get the programme on and  expressed special gratitude to the WISA Executive members, especially President RoseMary Gaisie, a media practitioner with deep affection for sports development.

Some of the personalities to be rewarded are: Mona Captan Myers-Lamptey (Golf), Leanier Addy (Only Female Executive GFA/GOC), Yarkor Chavez Annan (Boxing), Naa Amerley Turkson (Boxing), Ethel Jacks (Table Tennis), Elizabeth King         (Hockey), Christie Dodoo (National Sports Authority), Alberta Ampomah (Weight Lifting / Arm Wrestling), Rosalind Amoh (Media - Print), and Fredericka Mensah-Davies (National Sports Authority).

​The rest are Mavis Amanor (Media - Radio), Senyuidzorm Awusi Adadevor (Media - Photo), Sammy Heywood Okine (Media - Online) SPECIAL, Dr. Deborah Cubagee (Mother, Women Sports), Madam Habiba Attah (Mother, Football), Gifty Naa Darkuah Dodoo (Only Female Executive (Boxing) and Gifty Annan Myers, (Rugby/SWAG Patron).
Others are Margaret Simpson, Alice Anum, Vida Anim, Alberta Sackey, Adjoa Bayor and the national female football teams; Black Queens, Black Maidens, Black Princesses who have in recent times been doing quite well.

​There would be posthumous awards for the Late Gloria Oforiwaa aka “Bele bele” and former national hockey chairperson, Theodosia Okoh who designed the national flag.

Madam Commodore appealed to corporate Ghana to help women in sports so that they would not go way ward or create more social problems. She thanked Kwese TV, IMAK, SWAG, T T Brothers, Accra Price, the President of the GOC, the President of Ghana Kickboxing Association, Online Sports Journalists Union (OSJU), Rotary Club friends and the media for supporting the event. “Sports is life and we must enjoy life” she expressed.
