NUKU'ALOFA - FIBA Development Manager - Oceania, Annie La Fleur, is meeting with the Tongan National Basketball Association (TNBA) this week in Nuku'alofa.
The visit comes on the back of Tonga being announced as hosts of the 2019 Pacific Games.
Tonga's National Federation is working on increasing the number of participants and developing the game of basketball in country.
As part of FIBA's commitment to developing the capacity of its national federations, La Fleur will be working with the national federation during their strategic planning phase. They will cover a range of topics including; national team selection and preparation, volunteer development and potential strategic partnerships in preparation for the Pacific Games.
Accompanying La Fleur is World Association of Basketball Coaches Executive Committee member, Michael Haynes. Haynes will be working with both La Fleur and the federation to help develop Toga's youth development and national basketball programme structure.
"The TNBA has an amazing opportunity in hosting the 2019 Pacific Games. Michael and I are both very excited to be working directly with the TNBA on their planning and preparation for not only the games but also, their national team program and volunteer development," said La Fleur.
La Fleur and Haynes' visit spans from 26-29 September.
