- Babos to make third consecutive appearance at the WTA Finals
- Hlavackova, a finalist in 2012, will make her fourth showing at the year-end event
ST PETERSBURG, FL, USA – The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that the doubles team of Timea Babos and Andrea Hlavackova have qualified for the 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, set to take place from October 22-29. The pair becomes the fifth team to qualify, with three more spots remaining.
This season, Babos/Hlavackova have clinched three titles, at the Grand Prix de SAR la Princesse Lalla Meryem (Rabat), Coupe Banque Nationale presentée par IGA (Quebec City) and the Tashkent Open, and were also runners-up at the Mutua Madrid Open. In Grand Slam play, the pair reached the quarterfinals at the US Open.
Babos and Hlavackova will join Martina Hingis/Chan Yung-Jan, defending champions Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina, Ashleigh Barty/Casey Dellacqua and Lucie Hradecka/Katerina Siniakova in Singapore, who have all secured their places earlier this season.
Staged at the Singapore Sports Hub from October 22-29, the 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global is an eight-day tennis festival featuring the world’s best players vying for US$7 million in prize money and two of the most prestigious titles in women’s tennis. The Top 8 singles players will compete in a round-robin format with the winner taking home the Billie Jean King Trophy. The Top 8 doubles teams will compete in a knock-out format for the Martina Navratilova Trophy.
