TORONTO, ONTARIO—The Federation of International Lacrosse is pleased to announce the creation of the Balls/Cockerton/Hayes (BCH) FIL Youth Lacrosse Development Program.
The grants will be primarily for Youth Lacrosse Development Programs covering the age range of 4 – 16 years old and at the discretion of the FIL Development Committee.
According to FIL Director of Development, Bob DeMarco, “The grants for the BCH FIL Youth Lacrosse Development Program will be available to all FIL member nations and developing countries.”
DeMarco continued, “These grants, up to $10,000 USD, will be awarded based on the number of successful applications we receive each year beginning in 2017.” Balls, Cockerton and Hayes, were all very appreciative.
“We’re all linked to international lacrosse and have been for a very long time, so this is quite an honor,” said Ron Balls.
Stan Cockerton added, “This is who we are and the most important thing we do – developing the game we love throughout the world.”
According to Tom Hayes, it’s about perpetuity. “We’ve spent our lives teaching and growing this game. It’s about legacy. This program is something that we can offer that will keep on giving.” Hayes summed it up. “I’m proud to have my name associated with it.”
Rick Mercurio, FIL Development Committee Chair, is excited to begin the program. “I can’t wait for the first applications to start rolling in.”
Mercurio continued, “Having been a clinician at dozens of development clinics, I’ve always felt we could do more with a little extra funding. Well, now we can.”
