24 January 2015 - South Africa Men’s U/20 National Team goalkeeper, Dumisani Msibi who has been one of the most outstanding players in the Commonwealth Cup tournament, taking place in the Russian city of St Petersburg says if ‘this bunch’ of players currently doing duty here are kept together, they are capable of making more history for the country.

The Supersport United rising star who has pulled off some miraculous saves as Amajita marched towards the final which will take place on Sunday against Finland says the current team has massive talent and should be carefully taken care of.

“Mark my words, if this squad is kept together as a unit and the players in turn keep their feet on the ground, this team can change the face of South African football.

“They should just remain level-headed, listen to the coaches and keep focused. They can turn into a golden generation. You have seen what they have done here in Russia,” said the 19-year old goalkeeper.

He said it was up to the authorities to look after this ‘bunch’ of players as the team prepares to head towards Senegal for the CAF African Youth tournament.

“We have made history here in Russia by defeating some of the biggest football names in world and reaching the final on European soil. That is no small feat.

“You can tell from the players’ determination that they want to leave a lasting impression and develop a niche for their careers. They have one thing in common – hunger for success,” added Msibi.

Born and bred in Piet Retief in Mpumalanga, Msibi who has gradually graduated into Supersport starting lineup paid tribute to coaches Gordon Igesund (at club level), Shakes Mashaba, Thabo Senong, David Notoane among others for helping him develop as a player.

“At my age, you need good guidance because it is easy to think you have arrived but personally all the coaches I have mentioned have been giving me great guidance and I want to thank them for that.

“On a personal note, I have learnt one philosophy that one should continuously upgrade oneself.”

On his marvelous performances here, Msibi says this has mostly been achieved through hard work and playing as a collective.

“It has really been a rollercoaster of a journey in this tournament. When we came here, few gave us a chance to progress to the final but now we are only 90 minutes away from winning the tournament.

“That is the nicety of soccer. If you work hard, this profession can reward you handsomely in no time. We are on the threshold of stardom and courtesy of this Commonwealth Cup. I also want to thank Russia for inviting us to this tournament. It has been an eye-opener and exciting at the same time,” he smiled.
