The clash set to take place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium will be Tembo’s third match at the helm led the team in two draws in a league and the first leg in Luanda.
Tembo took over the reins from Eric Tinkler who parted ways with the club following a string of poor results that sees the club in a tough relegation battle as the season nears conclusion. He has however welcomed the idea of competing in the second-tier continental club championship saying that it will breed confidence and help the team improve on the domestic front.
Having worked at the club’s development ranks, Tembo is well known for his philosophy of playing youngsters and with players such as Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena high on confidence, he is expected to put a lot of faith in the duo, who also received national team call ups earlier this week.
“I have always known about the development of our young players. I have coached most of our youngsters and it is a little bit easier for me to blend them with the senior players. Looking at our game in Angola, we played 17-year-old Luke Le Roux. We also have the likes of Jamie Webber and Darren Smith who all have a bright future ahead of them” said Tembo.
On his opponents, the 47-year-old coach cautioned against taking them lightly saying that they are a formidable side.
"They [Petroleos] are quite a good team. They are second on the log (in Angola) and have not lost a home match in the last 27 games, so they are quite a formidable side. We need to be wary of the danger the pose and remain disciplined,” Tembo concluded.
