Khalfan who scored the opener for his side was fouled in the second half but struggled to get off the ground, and after a while he was pronounced dead.
His death comes barely a year after another youngster, Mshauri Salim died in a Premier League pre match between Coastal Union and African Sports.
Mbao assistant coach, Juma Masoud said that the youngster looked healthy and strong before and during the match hence it is hard for them to understand he sudden demise.
“We were just surprised that he fell down and when we rushed to see him we came to knowledge that he was dead. It is so sad,” said Masoud.
Father of the deceased, Hamidu Suleiman expressed surprise at the mysterious death of his son, cutting an end to his glittering career.
“We don’t know what to say but it is so sad. We can’t accept that it was his destiny,” he said.
Khalfan has since been laid to rest in his hometown, Mwanza.
