Two goals from Mukhusin Makame and Nickson Kibabange in the first half plus a Yohana Nkomola penalty was enough for Tanzania to seal victory over their neighbours.
It was a one sided affair in the first half as the visitors failed to register a shot on target, managing just two shots off target.
Makame scored the opener on the 20 minutes from close range assisted by Naftal. Ally missed a clear chance on the 34 minute but Kibabange doubled the lead for the hosts four minutes later.
The Serengeti Boys dominated the second half by creating as many as five clear cut chances before Nkomola converted a penalty on 72 minutes to wrap up victory.
Nickson Kibabange (Captain, Tanzania)
We played well today. We created some chances and scored, and that is how we won the game. We didn’t expect that we could win by such a margin because Burundi is a good team and they played well. We saw some few weaknesses on our side and I hope that we will work on them with time.
Omary Nzeyimana (Captain, Burundi)
It was very tough for us. Tanzania are a good team, they played well and aggressively. I hope we will have a good comeback in the next game.
