Sierra Leone table tennis players have missed out on the four available slots for Africa in the table tennis event for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.
The West African nation was up against Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Ethiopia, Congo Brazzaville, Congo DRC and Madagascar at the just concluded 2017 ITTF African Junior and Cadet Championships at the Palais Des Sport El-Mensah, in Tunis.
Bredford Sawyer defeated Sie Nomel, 3 sets to 2, (11-4, 6-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9) while Alieu Sesay overpowered Djedjeme Wilfred also by 3 sets to 2 (10-12, 11-7, 6-11, 13-11, 11-8).
Sierra Leone’s trio also lost to South Africa in a junior cadet consolation match losing to Zakeer Moosa, Ezile Ndwabdasini and Prahlad Nair.
Meanwhile, Youssef Abdel-Aziz and Nathael Hamdoun both secured qualifications to the 2018 Youth Games in the men’s category while Nigeria’s Esther Oribamise and Marwa Alhodaby secured that in the female category.
