Charles Osei Asibey, an executive member of the association said it is a serious responsibility that SWAG has taken upon itself to honor the outstanding sportsmen and women at the end of the year and appealed to other sports loving companies to support SWAG.
He said 20 categories of awards would be honoured with 18 being competitive as ex- international footballer and now FIFA coordinator Anthony Baffoe being nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year against International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Lightweight Champion Emmanuel Game Boy Tagoe.
He named West Ham’s Andre Ayew, Daniel Amartey of Leicester City and TP Mazembe’s Solomon Asante contesting for the Footballer of the Year award and Boxing trainer, Paul Dogboe being nominated as Coach of the Year.
He thanked MTN Ghana for sponsoring the awards in its 8th season and hoped that the marriage of MTN Ghana and SWAG is going to last forever.
Mrs Cynthia Lumor Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana who presented the cheque of 42,000ghc to the SWAG President congratulated SWAG for a successful organization of the 41st awards and activities that followed like the ultimate winner Andre Ayew visiting their premise and inspiring many workers and customers.
She noted that MTN Ghana and SWAG have enjoyed and maintained a cordial partnership and commended the past and current executives for their roles in ensuring that SWAG remain formidable.
She expressed that MTN have improved their performance as a business due to network expansion that support the 4G LTE Technology.
Madam Lumor said MTN Ghana has increased its total subscriber base to 19,3 million , translating into a total market share of 56.4%.
She admonished SWAG members to make it a point acknowledge MTN in their reportage.
