Together with partnered brands SuperSport (who will be streaming all tournament games and broadcasting highlights), Xbox and Metro FM, VS Gaming will for the first time combine eSport with entertainment.
The event is open to all enthusiasts who must register on the VS Gaming website www.vsgaming.co.za to qualify for the 1000 available spots. Tournament participation is free and general attendance is R100. Tickets are available at Computicket outlets and the event is open to all members of the family.
One lucky attendee also stands to walk away with a Mercedes-Benz Smart Car, courtesy of the vehicle manufacturer.
According to VS Gaming CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane, e-football has been specifically selected for this tournament to demonstrate VS Gaming’s larger objective of taking gaming out of ‘underground’ and into the mainstream.
“We are passionate about mapping the African narrative for this exciting industry, and it is our goal to provide gamers of all levels with professional platforms to grow, learn and attract international exposure. The VS Gaming slogan is ‘dare to be better’, and that’s what we intend to do, year on year.”
“We aim to demolish all preconceptions that gaming caters only to niche demographics, to create a culture of spectatorship that will one day rival that of rugby, cricket and soccer,” he added.
His view was echoed by Gideon Khobane, chief executive of SuperSport, who said: “eSport is the first totally new sport to be created in over 100 years. Its growth has been phenomenal and we at SuperSport want to be ahead of the curve. There is already a thriving local gaming community, so we’re all-in for the VS Gaming event.”
