Serbian trainer Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has terminated his contract as head coach of Uganda after more than four years in charge.

Sredojevic who guided the Cranes to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon early this year, a first for the East African country since 1978, officially called time on his Uganda role at a press conference in Kampala on Saturday.

“It is sad that Uganda has not given me chance to achieve my dream of taking them to the World Cup,” said Sredojevic, who cited unpaid salaries plus bonuses as the core reason.

“After this termination, I will now look at the many offers on the table but not coaching a national team because there is a lot of wasted time,” added the Serb who said attempts to resolve the impasse including series of meetings with the leadership of the Federation of the Uganda Football Association (FUFA) proved fruitless.

After a 5-1 win over South Sudan last week in a Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya 2018 qualifier, Micho as the Serb is fondly called said he only had 48-hours to decide his future with the Cranes.

Meanwhile, FUFA has moved on and is looking forward to naming a replacement in the not too distant future with the Cranes due to face Rwanda next month in the final round of the Total CHAN Kenya 2018 qualifier, before September’s double header against Egypt in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“FUFA would like to thank Mr. Sredojevic for the services rendered to the Uganda Cranes during his time as coach of the National team especially when he guided the country to the AFCON finals in Gabon for the first time since 1978.  FUFA wishes Micho the best in his future adventures.

“FUFA will keep the public and members of the football family updated in due course on the way forward about the technical aspects of the Uganda Cranes,” the Federation’s statement stated.

Besides guiding Uganda to the finals of the Total AFCON Gabon 2017, Micho appointed in May 2013 also guided the Cranes to qualify for the 2014 and 2016 finals of the CHAN in South Africa and Rwanda respectively, and winning the regional CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in 2015 in Ethiopia.
