The Sierra Leone Tennis Association (SLTA) are still seeking more funding for the construction of a National Tennis Centre at the Hill Station Tennis Courts site.
Construction and work are already ongoing at the site after the International Tennis Federation (ITF) approved through the Grand Slam Development Fund Committee a sum of US$20,000.00 with part of the said amount already received by the Association.
“It is worth-noting that the $20,000 award will not be enough to complete the entire project. The Association is therefore humbly appealing to the Government of Sierra Leone, NGOs, Corporate Institutions, Embassies, and individuals to give material and/or financial supports towards the success and completion of this project,” Koroma said.
When completed, the Center would be the first internationally recognized national tennis center in the country. The SLTA scribe further stated that the facility will enable better preparation of players for international competitions.
He said: “We would begin hosting recognized ITF competitions and conferences which will surely add value not only to the Association, but to Sierra Leone as a whole. Better facility will encourage more people having interest in the sport and therefore more and better players.”
Construction work on the center started on 13th December 2016.
