The day’s event which was expected to attract over 24 boxers from all boxing clubs in the country was scheduled days before the country’s general elections but has now been put on hold by the Executive.
According to the Association’s General Secretary, Alhaji Komba, a key reason for their decision was the withdrawal of the forces; Sierra Leone Police, Prisons and the Army boxers due to assignments for the March 7th elections.
The SLBA scribe further stated that they will still come up with the championship after the elections but failed to give a specific date.
The Boxing Championship was expected to have targeted a segment of the public that are vulnerable and need to be sensitized about how to prevent them from engaging in violence during the elections.
A total of 13 clubs; XOB Boxing Club, Sierra Leone Police Boxing Club, BBC Boxing Club, Tiwana Boxing Club, Mercury Boxing Club, Fire force Boxing Club, Prisons Boxing Club, Erin Boxing Club, Eastern Region Boxing Club, Southern Region Boxing Club, Northern Region Boxing Club, Tombo Boxing Club and the Best Boxing Club were expected to have battled.
