Sierra Leone and Former Barnet defender, Alie Sesay last Saturday made his official debut for IFK Frej in the Swedish second tier league (Superettan) and on the following day, youngster Mustapha Bundu scored his first goal for Danish Superliga side AGF.
Sesay who joined the Swedish club from English league two side; Barnet during the summer saw full time action in their 2-2 home draw with Gefle to mark the start of the new league campaign. The Sierra Leone central defender played alongside his countryman, Abu Suma who was withdrawn in the 90th minute.
Bangura who joined the Swedish second tier league side after leaving Chinese club, Dalian Yifang in the summer made a cameo in the 68th minute as Dalkurd FF where held to a goalless by Brommapojkarna.
Victor Mansaray who is on loan to the United Soccer League side, FC Cincinnati from Seattle Sounders FC came off the bench at the 79th minute replacing Dacres as FC Cincinnati secured 0-1 away win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The striker was booked in the 85th minute.
The only Sierra Leonean goal over the weekend came from Mustapha Bundu who helped his Danish Superliga side AGF come from behind to secure a vital 4-2 win over Viborg FF as they continued their battle for survival.
Bundu’s 45th minute strike was his first goal for AGF. The youngster joined the Ceres Park club with a big reputation and Sunday’s goal provided a further glimpse at what the future could hold for him.
Elsewhere, George Davies continued to see more playing time on loan with Austrian league side,
Floridsdorfer AC. The Sierra Leone winger was accorded 75 minutes in a 1-3 defeat to Lask Linz while John Kamara and his Kaisar team were held to a 1-1 draw by Kairat with the Sierra Leone midfielder being cautioned by the referee in 74thminute.
Alhassan ‘Crespo’ Kamara started his new campaign in the Swedish Allsvenskan as his BK Hacken side draw a blank in their visit to his former club, AIK. Kamara was withdrawn in 90+3 minutes.
Mohamed Buya Turay was the other Sierra Leonean striker in action at the Allsvenskan but his newly promoted AFC Eskilstuna were defeated 3-1 by GIF Sundsvall. In Turkey, Alfred Sankoh’s Denizlispor side were defeated 1-2 at home by Altinordu with the Sierra Leonean only seeing 61 minutes of action.
In U.S Major League Soccer, the struggle continues for Kei Kamara and his New England Revolution side who were held to a 1-1 draw by Portland Timbers and in North American Soccer League, Sierra Leone international who is Captain of Miami FC, Michael Lahoud helped spoiled the New York Cosmos’ season debut at MCU Park with a 3-0 win on Saturday night in front of 6,274 fans. The visitors scored all three goals within a 20-minute stretch in the second half with Lahoud assisted Dylan Mares to give them the opener in the 51st minute.
Julius Wobay who saw full time action could not help Olympia escape a 2-1 defeat away to Aluminij Meanwhile Sierra Leone’s national team captain, Umaru Bangura was an unused sub in FC Zürich 2-1 home win over FC Schaffhausen.
