Sierra Leone grabbed 18 medals in the just concluded West Africa Region II Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Senior and Junior Championships in Conakry, Guinea.
The ECOWAS championship concluded at the Stade de Nongo in Conakry, Guinea on Sunday with Sierra Leonean athletes securing 12 bronze, five silver and a gold medal.
Sam Fatorma also joined the medal podium as he secured bronze in the U-20 high-jump with a height of 1.65'' Long distance runner, Osman Charley finished in third position to walk away with a bronze medal in the 5000m senior men after a 15:16.02 sec run, while Macsoud Bangura settled for silver medal in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.2 sec.
Aruna Sesay also secured an individual medal in the 400m hurdles finishing behind his compatriot to secure a bronze medal with 54.9 sec.
There was a bronze medal for the 4x400m senior women team who finished 3:59.7 sec while their male side clocked 3:16.05 sec to secure the silver. The 4x100m senior women clocked 48.09 sec to settle for bronze medal the same as 4x100m senior men team which clocked 47.02 sec.
Team Sierra Leone secured four more medals than the previous 14 won in Banjul, The Gambia last June. The team however failed to increase their gold medal tally as they were able to grab four gold, three silver medals and seven bronze medals in last year’s tournament.
