Lausanne, Switzerland, October 11, 2017 – Senegal beat Nigeria to book the final semifinal spot at the Japan 2018, FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship CAVB Qualifier on Wednesday.
Sene Amadou’s side defeated their west African rivals 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-20) to join hosts Cameroon, Kenya and Egypt in the final four.
Senegal’s win means they moved above Nigeria into second place behind Kenya in Pool B. Fatou Diouck led the way for Senegal and finished as match leading scorer with 17 points.
Cameroon top Pool A after they defeated Egypt 3-1 (20-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-18). Moma Bassoko put in an impressive performance to finish with a match best total of 25 points. Nana Tchoudjang backed her up with 19 points of her own.
Algeria rounded off their tournament with their first win. They had to be at their best to edge past a highly determined Botswana for a 3-2 (14-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-12, 15-8) victory.
