LUDWIGSBURG (Basketball Champions League) - Dinamo Sassari held on for a 78-75 away win over MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg on Tuesday evening.
Ludwigsburg poured in 33 points in the final period, outscoring Sassari 29-11 over the final 4:56 of the game to pull within three for the final result. It was too little too late as time ultimately ran out on their rally.
Sassari improved to 6-7 with the win and could still advance to the Play-offs as one of the top-ranked fifth-placed teams.
Sassari were led by a season-high 22 points and 5 assists from Rok Stipcevic, whilst Dusko Savanovic joined him in double figures with 13 points, all of which came in the second half.
"It was a big one for us," Sassari's Josh Carter said after the game.
"Ludwigsburg have had a great year. We came in and we fought hard and played defence great until the last 5 minutes or so when they made some shots and made some plays, but overall it was a good one for us."
Clifford Hammonds led Ludwigsburg with 16 points, whilst Chad Toppert commented:
"We definitely put ourselves in too big of a hole, we came back fighting towards the end but it was too little, too late. If we had done a few things differently, come out with a bit more aggression at the beginning, maybe the outcome would have been different.
"They played a great game, they shot the ball well and it was tough once we got in a hole."
