Speaking to journalists after the final match where Ghana beat Togo by 10 -0 points, he hinted that the margin against the Togolese has put them in a tight situation for qualification, as they were hoping to win by a wider margin.
However, he was glad that his team took the silver cup and the gold medals, with the silver and bronze medals going to Benin and Togo respectively.
Benin shocked Togo with a surprise 14 -12 victory, after losing 46-5 to Ghana.
According to Herbert Mensah, what is important is that Ghana won the competition and has created more fruitful relationship with Togo and Benin, as well as exposed the technical and medical staff of the teams.
He expressed that the public and media has also benefited from focusing on another sport which is not football and being played on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Herbert Mensah stressed that despite no support from government, he managed to attract some sponsors to make the competition happen.
He said Ghana won an important trophy and was proud of the players who donned the national jersey.
He noted that though they have to wait for other regional results, Ghana is ahead of the pack with their current form and training schedule which has not yet reached full scale.
“We gave some players the chance and they made Ghana proud, our players did well. It was great team effort, rugby is all about team work. We also had good effort from individual play” he said.
He however noted that they are mentally and physically fit for any opposition.
“We have physicality of players and our back row is strong, those who lack physique are swift and intelligent” he said.
He took opportunity to thank Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who supported him to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the May 9 tragedy.
