
NEW YORK (Saturday, July 19, 2014) – MLS Golden Boot frontrunners Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls) and Erick “Cubo” Torres (Chivas USA) join international stars Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC), Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls), Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy) and Aurélien Collin (Sporting Kansas City) on the 23-man roster for the 2014 AT&T MLS All-star Game. The experienced roster will take on Bayern Munich on August 6 at Providence Park, home of the Portland Timbers (live on ESPN 2, UniMas, and in Canada on TSN and RDS starting at 9:30 p.m. ET).
Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber named Portland Timbers’ midfielder Diego Valeri and Chivas USA forward Erick Torres as 2014 AT&T MLS All-Stars.
Because of the competitive format -- MLS vs. the World -- of the AT&T MLS All-Star Game, MLS asked All-Star head coach Caleb Porter to choose from among all available players, and he constructed a dynamic, balanced roster loaded with the League’s top talent to take on one of the best teams in the world.

Osvaldo Alonso Midfielder Seattle Sounders FC Nationality: Cuba Born: November 11, 1985
One of the original Sounders remaining from the team’s inaugural MLS season in 2009, Alonso has been recognized as team MVP for four consecutive seasons (2010-13). His inclusion in the squad marks his fourth consecutive All-Star selection. All-time club leader in games, starts and minutes played.
Kyle Beckerman Midfielder Real Salt Lake Nationality: USA Born: April 23, 1982
Playing in his 15th MLS season, Beckerman is among MLS all-time leaders in games and minutes played. He made his FIFA World Cup debut in Brazil, starting all three group stage games for the U.S. and helping the team advance to the Round of 16. He captained RSL to its first ever MLS Cup title in 2009 and this is his eighth straight All-Star nomination.
Matt Besler Defender Sporting Kansas City Nationality: USA Born: February 11, 1987
The 2012 MLS Defender of the Year and two-time Best XI selection earns his third MLS All-Star selection (2011, 2013, 2014). Besler was at the heart of the Sporting Kansas City defense that helped the team win MLS Cup 2013. The Overland Park, Kan. native was an integral part of the U.S. men’s national team’s defense at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, starting all four matches as the team advanced to the Round of 16.
Michael Bradley Midfielder Toronto FC Nationality: USA Born: July 31, 1987
Returning to MLS after playing nine seasons abroad. Bradley is the engine of Toronto FC’s midfield. He started and played every minute of the U.S. men’s national team’s four games during the World Cup. This is Bradley’s first MLS All-Star selection, but second appearance after playing for AS Roma in the 2013 All-Star game.
Tim Cahill Midfielder New York Red Bulls Nationality: Australia Born: December 6, 1979
Signed as a Designated Player on July 26, 2012, Cahill has become a cult hero amongst the Red Bulls fans. Cahill represented his native country, Australia, in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, scoring two goals for the Socceroos during their group stage campaign. In his first full season with the Red Bulls, Cahill was named to the 2013 MLS Best XI, and won the Red Bulls MVP and Golden Boot awards. This is Cahill’s second MLS All-Star team selection, after being picked last season to join the all-star’s in their game against AS Roma.
Aurélien Collin Defender Sporting Kansas City Nationality: France Born: March 8, 1986
The 2012 MLS Defender of the Year, the Paris native will be making his third consecutive MLS All-Star appearance. 2013 marked one of the best seasons of his career, culminating in MLS Cup MVP honors as he converted the championship-clinching penalty kick against Real Salt Lake. Collin was also named 2013 Sporting KC Humanitarian of the Year.
Jermain Defoe Forward Toronto FC Nationality: England Born: October 7, 1982
Signed as a Designated Player on January 10, 2014, Defoe has had a lightning quick start with Toronto FC after transferring from the English Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur F.C. In 13 starts, Defoe has scored 11 goals and notched two assists. Defoe has earned 55 caps with the English national team, scoring 19 goals and helping his country qualify for multiple World Cups. Prior to joining Toronto FC, Defoe spent 11 seasons with Tottenham, making a combined 362 appearances and scoring 142 goals across all competitions. This is his first MLS All-Star team selection.
Clint Dempsey Forward Seattle Sounders FC Nationality: USA Born: March 9, 1983
After returning to MLS last August, Dempsey has led Sounders FC to the best record in the League so far in 2014, contributing nine goals and three assists. The captain of the U.S. men’s national team, Dempsey scored the team’s fastest goal in World Cup history at 29 seconds in the 2-1 win over Ghana, making him the first American player to score in three consecutive World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014).
Landon Donovan Midfielder LA Galaxy Nationality: USA Born: March 4, 1982
The all-time leading goal scorer in MLS history with 137 goals and second in assists with121 assists, Donovan has been named an MLS All-Star for his 14th consecutive season. The all-time leader in goals (57) and assists (56) for the U.S. men’s national team has won five MLS Cup titles, three with the LA Galaxy.
Omar Gonzalez Defender LA Galaxy Nationality: USA Born: October 11, 1988
A fixture for the U.S. men’s national team in World Cup Qualifying, Gonzalez made 14 appearances in 2013 and was second on the team in minutes played with 1,172. Since the Galaxy selected Gonzalez third overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, he has been named MLS Rookie of the Year, Defender of the Year and to three MLS Best XI’s, while helping the Galaxy win two MLS Cups (2011, 2012) and two Supporters’ Shields (2010, 2011).
Bill Hamid Goalkeeper D.C. United Nationality: USA Born: November 25, 1990
Became D.C. United’s first Homegrown Player in 2009 and is the youngest goalkeeper to win a league contest at the age of 19 in 2010. Hamid will become the youngest goalkeeper and first MLS homegrown player to make 100 regular season appearances in goal when he plays his next game. This is his first All-Star selection.
Thierry Henry Forward New York Red Bulls Nationality: France Born: August 17, 1977
In his fourth full season with the New York Red Bulls, Henry has four goals to go along with a MLS-best nine assists in 15 games played. He has been named to the MLS Best XI twice (2011, 2012). Henry helped France win the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and reach the tournament final at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This is his fourth MLS All-Star Team selection.
Will Johnson Midfielder Portland Timbers Nationality: Canada Born: January 21, 1987
An MLS veteran, and MLS Cup winner (2009), Johnson has been a key contributor at both Real Salt Lake and Portland Timbers during his career. In his first season with the Timbers, Johnson set MLS career highs in goals (9), assists (5) and minutes played (5,250), while earning MLS All-Star and 2013 MLS Best XI honors. Johnson is an MLS All-Star for the third time, including his second all-star selection with the Timbers. This season with the Timbers, Johnson has registered five goals while starting all 20 matches.
Robbie Keane Forward LA Galaxy Nationality: Ireland Born: July 8, 1980
Now in his third MLS season, Keane has displayed why he is such a sought after forward scoring 43 goals in three seasons. Since joining the Galaxy in 2011, Keane has enjoyed much team and individual success as a two-time MLS Cup Champion (2011, 2012), MLS Best XI (2013) and two-time MLS All-Star Selection (2013, 2014). The Irish international is Ireland’s all-time leader in goals with 53 in 114 appearances and their current captain. Keane has scored 269 career goals for both club and country.
Chad Marshall Defender Seattle Sounders FC Nationality: USA Born: August 22, 1984
A veteran of 11 MLS seasons, Marshall spent his first 10 years with the Columbus Crew and became the first player in club history to log 20,000 minutes played. In 2008, Marshall helped the Crew to an MLS Cup title and earned MLS Defender of the Year honors. The next season Columbus won the Supporters Shield and Marshall was named to his second straight MLS Best XI
Obafemi Martins Forward Seattle Sounders FC Nationality: Nigeria Born: October 28, 1984
After signing with Seattle as a Designated Player in 2013, Martins has tallied eight goals and six assists in 16 appearances this season. Prior to joining Seattle, Martins spent six seasons with Italian giants Inter Milan and four seasons in the Barclay’s Premier League with Newcastle United. He has scored 18 goals for the Nigerian national team and made two appearances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Michael Parkhurst Defender Columbus Crew Nationality: USA Born: January 24, 1984
Parkhurst returns to MLS after spending the last six years playing professionally in Germany and Denmark. He competed in the 2012 UEFA Champions League while playing for Danish side F.C. Nordsjalland. During his four years with New England, Parkhurst received honors such as MLS Rookie of the Year (2005), MLS Humanitarian of the Year (2006), and MLS Defender of the Year (2007). He also featured on the international stage for the U.S. and helped the team win both the 2007 and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup titles.
Nick Rimando Goalkeeper Real Salt Lake Nationality: USA Born: June 17, 1979
In his 15th MLS season, Rimando earns his fourth All-Star selection (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014). He has 111 career shutouts, which is one shy of the MLS record of 112. A two-time MLS Cup Champion (2004, 2009), he was named MLS Cup MVP in 2009 with Real Salt Lake. Following his standout 2013 season, Rimando was selected as a member of the U.S. men’s national team World Cup squad.
Erick Torres Forward Chivas USA Nationality: Mexico Born: January 19, 1993
In his second season with Chivas USA, Torres has been the spark behind the team’s 4-game winning streak during the first half of the 2014 campaign. Torres leads the team in goals with 13 goals in 18 starts during the regular season and holds the all-time scoring record for Mexican-born players in MLS. This is Torres’ first MLS All-Star selection.
Diego Valeri Midfielder Portland Timbers Nationality: Argentina Born: May 1, 1986
Valeri signed with Portland as a Designated Player ahead of the 2013 season and helped the team to the best record in the Western Conference while earning MLS Newcomer of the Year and MLS Best XI honors. His 13 assists led the league in his first season. Valeri previously played in the Portuguese and Argentine top flights and played in the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League with FC Porto. This is his second consecutive All-Star selection. Valeri ranks among league leaders with eight assists for Portland this season, while also recording four goals.
Bradley Wright-Phillips Forward New York Red Bulls Nationality: England Born: March 12, 1985
In his first full season with the Red Bulls, Wright-Phillips is the current Golden Boot leader with 16 goals this season. After joining the Red Bulls midway through the 2013 season, Wright-Phillips was an integral part of their Supporters Shield winning season. The goal-scoring forward has made 18 appearances, 15 of which were starts. Prior to joining the Red Bulls, Wright-Phillips made several stops in England, including Manchester City, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic and Brentford. This is his first MLS All-Star team selection.
DeAndre Yedlin Defender Seattle Sounders FC Nationality: USA Born: July 9, 1993
In 2013, Yedlin became the first Homegrown Player signing in the history of the Seattle Sounders FC. This is his second All-Star selection (2013, 2014) after being named an All-Star by Commissioner Don Garber in 2013. After a standout rookie season, Yedlin became the first Homegrown Players to make the U.S. national team’s World Cup roster, appearing in three of the team’s four games in Brazil.
Graham Zusi Midfielder Sporting Kansas City Nationality: USA Born: August 18, 1986
A six-year MLS veteran, Zusi was named to the U.S. men’s national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup; played in all four games in Brazil and assisted on goals in the 2-1 win against Ghana, and the 2-2 draw against Portugal. Named to the Fan XI in 2013, and recorded six goals and eight assists while helping Sporting KC win MLS Cup 2013. Has scored one goal and added four assists so far in 2014.
