Rio 2016 qualifiers: Sierra Leone & Guinea makes progress

Sierra Leone’s male & female team secure beach volleyball success

Tournament favourite, Sierra Leone together with host nation Guinea proceeded to the second phase of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and CAVB Continental Cup qualifiers with their male and female team finishing above Guinea Bissau to qualify. 

The two nations proved too strong for Guinea Bissau in their Pool 3 Zone 2 qualifiers as both Bissau teams suffered heavy defeats in the three days tournament.

Sierra Leone topped the Men’s ranking after beating both Guinea Bissau and Guinea to secure a total of 16 points which left the host in second place with 12 points whilst Guinea Bissau ended up with eight points.

However, things were different in the Women classification as the tournament host finished at the top of the table with 15 points followed by Sierra Leone with 13 points and Guinea Bissau in third with eight points.

 

Both nation; Sierra Leone and Guinea now wait for their next opponents in the other round of the qualifiers with polling to be announced by the African governing body, CAVB soon.
