South Africa is a big and experienced team. I wasn’t expecting this kind of result. I wanted to close the spaces and not to allow them to score, unfortunately the girls got tired because they are not used to playing a lot of matches within a short space of time. Also, a lot of individual mistakes cost us. The South Africans have a lot of skilful players with good ball control and this got my players exhausted. However, this is just the beginning and we expect better results in the future.
I don’t think I had to motivate the players because they knew what was at stake. We created a lot in the first half, and when we started stretching them (Egypt) and created openings, we scored. It is not a dream but we had the belief. We always had the belief that we could play better. We wanted to make sure we get the result we needed. We had always been creating the chances and hopefully going forward, we can take more chances.
If you want to win you have to play against all teams. We have to plan for either Ghana or Nigeria. It doesn’t matter which team we play because we will have to play either of them.
