Petitclerc, who has 21 Paralympic medals and is the only Canadian athlete to have won gold medals at the Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games, is Chef de Mission for Team Canada.
Speaking today, (Thursday 31 July), she praised Glasgow 2014 for having the largest para-sport programme of any Games.
She said:
“As a former para-athlete I am proud that the Commonwealth Games are so accepting of para-events on and off the track. I hope Glasgow can inspire other multi-sport events around the world to be as receptive as the crowds have been here.”

“From the beginning during the Chef’s visits here we had a feeling that these Games were going to be great. It is one thing to have world class sporting venues but it is hard to predict the magic and atmosphere you will have and I’m so happy to say that the athletes have had an amazing reception here in Glasgow.
“Team Canada is loving the experience; the food, the living arrangements, all the little things that make a world class multi-sport event great.
“To be third in the medal table at this current stage is what we set out to achieve and that’s largely been achieved through the great reception of the crowds towards us.
There are 22 medal events across five Para-Sports, making the Glasgow 2014 programme the largest of any Commonwealth Games. Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Powerlifting are all core sports and Cycling is the fifth Para-Sport which has been added to our programme for Glasgow 2014.
Lawn Bowls has also returned after only ever being staged in Manchester 2002. An equal number of medal opportunities will be offered for both male and female Para-Sport athletes.
Tickets are still available for the Powerlifting on Saturday which will feature Scottish hopeful Micky Yule.
Other tickets available for tomorrow include – Athletics, Boxing and Squash. Tickets can be bought on the website at tickets.glasgow2014.com or by calling 0800 458 2014.
