Football stakeholders and delegates have insisted that nothing can stop the planned 20th December extraordinary congress of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in Freetown.

On Tuesday (18 November) in a press statement called on the SLFA to organize an extraordinary congress as they had unanimously resolved to invoke Article 28 of the SLFA Statutes which addressed the issue of extraordinary congress.

Some of the stakeholders who spoke to me said their decision was unanimous and that they would work towards the planned date for the congress.

FC Kallon Secretary General, Blamoh Robert, said the Football Association cannot stop them from going to the congress as they (the FA’s) must account for their stewardship.

“They have failed to convene a congress despite our requests. Nothing can stop us from holding that congress next month,” Robert said.

Also, Abu Mansaray of Kono District Football Association said: “Since this FA came into power they have shown total disrespect for us and have violated several clauses in our constitution so we are going to convene a congress.”

The release reads: “Members of the Sierra Leone Football Association at a Stakeholders Consultative Meeting held at the Siaka Stevens Stadium on Sunday 16th November, 2014 have unanimously resolved to invoke Article 28 of the Sierra Leone Football Association Statutes to convene an extraordinary congress to be held on Saturday 20th December, 2014.

“The Agenda suggested for the extraordinary congress is to discuss the conduct and activities of the Football Association for the period of 3rd August, 2013 to date”.

In conclusion, members resolved as follows:-

(I) A Committee of eleven (11) members was elected headed by Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, including the four Regional Chairmen representing their various Regional Football Associations and six other members to spearhead and coordinate the campaign on the fight against EBOLA.

(II) A Steering Committee was elected and mandated to pursue the convening of an “extraordinary” congress pursuant to the provision of article 28 of the SLFA statutes on Saturday 20th December, 2014 at the Siaka Stevens Stadium, Brookfields, and Freetown to discuss the conduct and activities of the SLFA and other related matters therein.

(III) The Steering Committee was also mandated to liaise with the relevant authorities, including SLFA, FIFA, CAF, the National Sports Council of Sierra Leone and other Football Confederations, etc.

Meanwhile, copies of the release was sent to the General Secretary of FIFA, Mr. Jerome Valcke; General Secretary of CAF, General Secretary of UEFA, President of SLFA, the Director of Sports, and National Sports Council.
