NEW YORK (Monday, July 14, 2014) – New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 18 of the 2014 MLS season.
In the New York Red Bulls’ 4-1 win over the Columbus Crew, Henry had a part in each of the four goals with one goal and three assists. Henry’s final assist made him the club’s all-time assist leader at 37.
Henry got his night started with an assist in the 17th minute to fellow forward Bradley Wright-Phillips. After a perfectly weighted pass from Eric Alexander found Henry in stride, Henry sent the ball across goal and Wright-Phillips redirected it in to the top of the net.
Right before half time, Henry put the Red Bulls up 2-1 with is fourth goal of the season. After Wright-Phillips tried twice to finish a Lloyd Sam cross, the ball was deflected out to the foot of Henry at the top of the box and the Frenchmen put a well-placed shot into the upper ninety.

Henry’s record tying assist came in the 55th minute when he made a run down the right wing, finding the cutting Lloyd Sam who’s low shot beat the keeper and found the back of the net.
Henry broke the club’s assist record in the fourth minute of extra time when a quick counter attack by Sam, who passed to Henry and with a one touch flick-on found Alexander in stride with just the keeper to beat. Alexander’s shot beat the keeper and found the lower right corner.
New York Red Bulls have a busy week, beginning with a trip to the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park on July 16 (7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes).
