In the Red Bulls home opener on Sunday, the 2014 MLS Golden Boot winner opened up his 2015 account with a goal and an assist in the club’s 2-0 win over Eastern Conference rival D.C. United.
Wright-Phillips brought the home crowd to its feet in the 25th minute when he settled a perfectly weighted long ball from Dax McCarty to score his first ever goal against the Black-and-Red. The English Designated Player took two touches, skillfully flicking the ball past D.C. defender Steve Birnbaum, and finished a half-volley to the far post to take the early lead.
The Red Bulls return to action this Saturday on the road when they face Columbus Crew SC at 7:30 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium (MLS LIVE).
