BRAZZAVILLE (FIBA AfroBasket 2017) - The FIBA AfroBasket 2017 hosts the Republic of Congo have elected Bruno Jean Richard Itoua as the new president of the Basketball Federation (FECOKET).
The new FECOKET president, who has been a senior member of the Congolese Cabinet, will serve a four-year term.
Talking to the local press, Itoua expressed his confidence in the organisation of the tournament and reminded that one of his priority will be the “restoration of values of the Congolese basketball.”
“We are looking to invest in high-level athletes, clubs and try to win trophies,” he stated.
“The Congolese basketball must find its place in the Central Africa. Then we’ll look to compete to find our place among the best countries in Africa.”
With a number of Congolese playing professional basketball in Europe, Itoua feels they won’t be short of talent.
“In France, we have young players willing to contribute to the development of the game in our country. With those players, we can dream to succeed internationally.”
