Djihad Bizimana netted the lone goal that separated the two teams in the 37th minute, to earn the army side the ticket to represent Rwanda in the 2018 Total CAF Confederation Cup.
The army side dominated the game for a large spell, characterized by quick exchanges and fast runs by Bizimana, Muhadjir Hakizimana, Issa Bigirimana and Innocent Nshuti.
Their dominance finally paid off seven minutes past the half-hour mark when Espoir midfielder Adolphe Hakundukize lost the ball and Bizimana pounced on it to score the only goal of the encounter.
The feat counts as APR’s ninth title after 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014, and made them Rwf 10 million (11,900 US Dollar) richer, whilst Espoir bagged halved the cash prize.
Meanwhile, league champions, Rayon beat Amagaju 3-0 to claim third place.
