MAPUTO (FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017) - Mozambique on Friday completed a two-game series win over Zimbabwe to secure a place in the Final Round of this summer’s FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Mali.
Following their Thursday’s 88-30 win, Mozambique remained as dominant closing the first half leading 43-19.
"Zimbabwe presented us some problems because they are taller and stronger than us, but we managed to overcome those adversities with our team spirit," Matsimbe explained to FIBA.com.
"This Zimbabwe team will surely cause some troubles in the future if they continue working hard."
Looking ahead of the Final Round, Matsimbe recalled that "it will be a lot harder because we are going to play against the best teams on the continent of Africa.
"The [Mozambique Basketball] Federation is aware of the challenges and will surely prepare the team the best way possible. My agreement was to coach the team during the qualifiers."
With the win, Mozambique join hosts Mali, reigning champions Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria and Angola.
