While the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be reaching its final stage, Brazil will host from 2 to 10 July another major FIFA World Cup event. The community of Caju, in Rio de Janeiro, will stage the Football for Hope Festival 2014, an event which will bring together 32 delegations of young leaders from Football-for-Hope-supported social programmes from Brazil and around the world for a unique intercultural exchange and a football tournament.

The first part of the Festival (2-6 July) will include an array of educational and cultural activities for the delegations. The second part will then culminate with a football tournament (7-10 July), where mixed teams will compete without referees. The Festival will demonstrate the power that football has to bring people together, transform lives and inspire entire communities. It will be an exhibition of fair play, football passion and cultural diversity as reflected by the varied origins of the participating organisations and their delegations. For further details about the Festival’s programme and delegations, please check the below factsheet, match schedule and teaser video.

The football tournament will start with an official opening ceremony including cultural performances scheduled to start at 10:00 on 7 July. The ceremony will be immediately followed by the first match of the tournament between the host team of Cajú and the delegation from the Starfinder Foundation, USA. After the first match, a mixed zone will be organized for media.

Media are invited to follow the whole football tournament which will run from 7 to 10 July, each day from 10:00 to 16:30. All media representatives wishing to cover the event are kindly requested to complete and send back the below form by Friday, 4 July 2014 at 19:00 BRT.

Although FIFA World Cup accredited media will be able to access the Festival, for organisation purposes they will still need to confirm their presence via the above-mentioned form. Non FIFA World Cup accredited media who register through the online form will be able to collect their accreditation at the Festival site as of 8:00 on 7 July.

The event will take place:

From Monday, 7 July, to Thursday, 10 July
from 10:00 to 16.30
in Caju at the Vila Olímpica Mané Garrincha
address: Rua Carlos Seixa s/n, Caju, Rio de Janeiro
