However Mazembe proceeds to the group stage 4-3 on aggregate on the wings of a 4-0 from the first leg last week in Lubumbashi.
It took Pelembe just the opening minute to score as the hosts led 1-0 in the first-half. Banda added the second goal in the 49th minute before Pelembe completed his double 15 minutes to full time.
Songo fought for the fourth which could have kept the tie even, but Mazembe held to book passage into the group stage, but only by the skin of their teeth.
Chiquinho Conde (Head Coach, UD Songo)
I am happy with the result, but I am not happy because it is not enough to take us to the next stage. We played a very sacrificing and intelligent game as were hoping to make history. My players did all their best on the pitch to achieve the historic result, but fell short.
Frank Banda (Midfielder, UD Songo)
The coach told us to just go and play with freedom. He emphasised that we keep it simple, avoid playing in our half and aim to score more goals and the game-plan worked so well.
We took the game to them but we could not just get the fourth goal as they switched into a defensive mode and deployed some delaying tactics. In the end, our failure to score an away goal cost us a place in the next round.
Mihayo Kazembe (Head Coach, TP Mazembe)
We conceded three goals due to loss of concentration. I had warned my players that in football everything can happen, and I have such experience.
UD Songo has a good team I think they can go farther next time. They showed so much potential. We are happy because we’ve managed to qualify to the group stage thanks to our win from the first leg (4-0). Now, we have to reflect on our performance and avoid such mistakes in the future.
