Mauritius beat the Seychelles to top CAVB Continental Cup Pool 12

Pool 12 teams Mauritius and the Seychelles

Seychelles, February 10, 2015 - The men's and women's beach volleyball teams from Mauritius claimed the gold medals at the CAVB Continental Cup Sub Zonal Phase Pool 12, Zone 7 tournament which took place this week.
 
Mauritius finished first in both genders, beating the host country 3-1 in the men's competition. A golden set was required to decide the winning team in the women's competition. Mauritians Natalie Letendrie and Rachel Christine won that 15-10.
 
Before the golden set in the women's competition, Stephanie Louise and Cristine Parsooramen had forced Seychelles Team B to a third set. T. Elizabeth and L. Tyrant were in front by 11-6 and were four points from a final victory, but the Mauritians came back to level at 12-12 and had a first match point at 14-13 and a second at 15-14, before finally winning the match 17-15 to the great excitement of the Mauritian delegation.

Mauritius won the gold medal at the African Games in 2011 and represented Africa at the 2012 London Olympic Games and will again be serious contenders in this edition of the Continental Cup.
 
In the men's competition, Team B Stephane Moonisamy and Olivier Alfred were beaten by the Bijoux brothers in a tie-break, while Gilbert Alfred and Eric Louise won in two sets against E.Flore and H.Ernesta.
 
The competition took place under the supervision of Mr Kaysee Teeroovengadum, Zone 7 President. The referee delegate was Mr Rodrigue Deboue from Cameroon.
 
The event was the first beach volleyball tournament organised by the Seychelles Volleyball Federation.
