Having first discovered his passion for running in 2010 and after many years of track and field, Adams chose last year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon as his debut marathon.
A decision that has yielded a return, seeing Adams not only complete last year’s race but similarly winning the competition to participate in this year’s Paris event, together with his best friend.
Aaron Adams said: “Participating in last year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon was a phenomenal experience. I experienced quite a bit of pain and cramping and there were several moments during the race when I questioned why I signed up. However, it was worth every single moment of discomfort. To be able to cross that finish line left me with a feeling and sense of accomplishment I will never forget.”
“The opportunity to travel overseas and visit Paris is something I could never have imagined, not even in my wildest dreams. I give my sincerest thanks to both Sanlam and ASICS for this incredible opportunity. I can honestly say, ‘dare to dream because dreams do come true’. Thank you.”
“I’ll definitely be back at year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. It was such a well organised event, showcasing the heart and soul of the beautiful Mother City. I have no doubt that the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon can easily compete with the world’s top international races.”
Yegs Ramiah, chief executive of Sanlam brand said: “We believe the sport of running is easily accessible and by its very nature requires determination, dedication and the belief that a lot can come from very little. Just like wealth creation, a craft that we as a company are more familiar with, the sport of running is a journey without an end, the joy and value of which are unqualified. Aaron’s experience proves just that and we wish him everything of the best for the Paris Marathon.”
Sarah Mundy, marketing manager of ASICS South Africa said: “ASICS South Africa would like to congratulate Aaron on winning the entry to the Paris Marathon. As one of the leading brands in running, we are excited to be able to provide a local South African runner with the opportunity to experience a top international road race, also sponsored by ASICS.”
